The One With The Wedding Singer

I just got home (3:55 am, sheesh) after a day of fun in the city with my coworkers. It was my friend Jinky and Stepahanie's birthday ( we were soooo touched they wanted to spend their birthday with us- and it's like, the whole day they did) , and we've been planning this day of fun for like 4 months but till we arrived at the Penn Station, we still can't decide what musical to watch. (It started with Lion King, and then Phantom and then Mama Mia- but i've watched all of them and I don't wanna watch them again, not that they are not good...they were all grrreat, b-but, eh, just cant watch them again!) Finally, while walking 10 blocks from Penn Station to Time Square ( sinapian din yata ni Eioh tong mga to sa hilig magwalkathon eh), we decided to watch The Wedding Singer....and Whee!!!!!

Ticket sales aren’t what they ought to be (meaning that you can get in without difficulty), we got ours for like $56 + tax and we were like at the far end, no, we were at the last row seats at the very end of the theater. But the upper promenade was like half empty so just before the show started, they gave the $100 seats to us. Whee! Actually, it was a small theatre (just slightly bigger than the Music Museum in greenhills where I saw They're Playing Our Song), so it wouldnt be that bad if we stayed at the back.

At first, I was kinda feeling...eh? Is it gonna be like the movie or is it a whole different story. I don't actually check on Broadway sites or reviews about plays/ musicals that are on Broadway right now, I just know they're on. So when I decide to go watch, I just watch it coz I'm curious. With TWS, I was wishing it would be the same as the movie coz I loved the movie so much, (I just actually watched it again the night before , VH1 Movies that Rock feature) ...and it was! It is exactly the same, and much much more to love!
I think they should just do movies into a musical, that works better than making a movie out of a musical. Rent , i soooo loved (I memorized their soundtrack...every single moo and moan...) but i didn't enjoy the movie as much as I enjoyed watching it live. To think that the movie turned out to be like a movie musical, not a movie movie. (Ngek, am I making sense?) I mean, it was exactly the same, it's just that their not in a theatre so there are more props, locations, etc.
Anyways, (going back to TWS) all the funny songs were there including Somebody Kill Me and Grow Old With You and then some romantic, funny, 80's , rock and other great songs. I'm not sure which ones were original but i definitely love them all. I'm soooo glad the movie soundtrack wasn't available at Best Buy the last time i asked, coz now I'm definitely getting the musical soundtrack. The musical was soo surreal. Awesome.
And guess what, or who....played Sammy, the guitarist of Robie's band who is still in love with the other waitress? Constatine Maroulis! As in!

I never watched American Idol religiously, but I've seen him and watched him sing a coupla times, and I liked him. Surprise, surprise!... it was his second day performing as Sammy, which stupidly enough, we never knew until after the show, when we were eating Pizza at Papa Johns and reading Playbill. Aaaargh! (This is why you always, ALWAYS, have to browse at your Playbill while waiting for the show to start just so you have an idea about the cast, storyline, and acts.) I was actually telling them, 'hala, that guy who played Sammy looks like Jimmy Fallon, parang artista, hindi pangbroadway,' sure enough, he IS Constantine! Galeng galeng, as in! He was sooo funny and can sing and act and dance and make us fall in love with him even with his flock of seagulls hairdo. (ala Chandler, just longer at the back), and his stupidity. Yup, he is the stupid guy there too. Can you imagine? Constantine? I was like so excited when I browsed at my Playbill and found out it was him, the other tables were actually glancing, probably wondering what the hell am I so excited about. Hee.

There was this one song by Sammy and Holie in the show that I love so much, Right In Front Of You...I think this part is the best act of Constantine. It's a song about getting caught into so many different things and people, but the one person that's meant to be for you is just right in front of you. Isn't that sweet? (sigh) There were two teenagers in front of us who were screaming so loud everytime Sammy comes out, and i overheard it was their 3rd night to watch. We thought it was odd, but then when we found out who Sammy was, well, can't blame the kids. hehe.

And, another fun part of the show was the last part. In the movie. the Growing Old song was played in the plane, right? In the musical, Glen and Julia actually went to Vegas , and Robie went to every chapel there to look for them. And along the way, he's gonna be joined by some people on drag doing celebrities like Mr. T (with a sign that says I pity the fool, hee)...Tina Turner, Cindy Lauper, Ronald Reagan...and whoelse is with them?...Imelda Marcos holding a shoe box in a very beautiful Baro't Saya. Isn't that kewl?! As in! (We were like standing up and cheering everytime she has a line, haha. ) And when they find them in a chapel, the drag queens were supposed to be witnesses for the wedding, and then enters Robie singing Growing Old, while Glen was kicked in the crotch by Tina Turner. This scene is very funnee...and soooo romantic.

Whew. The day was a little tiring (coz we had to kill time and walk around from 2 pm till 8 pm, that's when the show starts) but it was all worth it. With The Wedding Singer, being able to give a fun birthday to our friends, a little shopping (finally found a perfect gift, whee!) , and the shrimps (Bubba Gump!) and never ending pizzas we ate....it was indeed a Day Of Fun!

And to end my 18 pages front and back, here's The Song For The One.....

I wanna make you smile, whenever you're sad (yup, been trying)
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do, is grow old with you (i really do)
I'll get your medicine, when your tummy aches (more than a medicine, i'll nurse you back to health)
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
So it could be so nice, growing old with you (yes it will)
I'll miss you, kiss you (more than kiss. hehe)
Give you my coat when you are cold
I'll need you, feed you
Even let you hold the remote control (like i'm even gonna get hold of it, duh)
So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink (that is, if we eat)
Put you to bed when you've had too much to drink (pwamise, i'm not gonna take advantage, hee)
Oh I could be the one, who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you ....(Can't say this enough)

Surreal...
